Downstairs Delight
At Woodfern Court, the homeowners envisioned a grand renovation to breathe new life into
their family home, infusing it with modern elegance while preserving its timeless charm. With a
master plan aimed at updating the early 2000s finishes and fixtures and creating space for their
growing family, including their high school and college-age sons and accommodating visits
from their parents, the homeowners enlisted the expertise of a seasoned remodeler to guide
them through the design/build process.
Phase one of the project, focused on the basement, aimed to create a fully functional living
space where the family could gather and cook two meals a day. This involved updating the
existing basement kitchen, primary bath, and powder bath, along with installing luxurious LVP
flooring for the public areas. Once completed, the sons would transition from the top floor to
the basement, paving the way for phase two, which included renovating the three top-floor
bathrooms. Phase three would tackle the main floor of the home, encompassing a full kitchen,
pantry, living room ceiling, laundry room, front entry, and primary bathroom, along with exterior
remodeling.
To achieve this ambitious undertaking within a 12-14 month timeline and tight budget, the
design-build firm meticulously mapped out a phased plan and contract structure. The existing
basement kitchen, primary bath, and powder bath were stripped down to their bare bones,
allowing for a fresh start with new base cabinets in natural wood tones and a muted palette.
Carrara Supreme quartz countertops adorned the kitchen sink wall and island, beautifully
contrasted against rustic stone tile herringbone backsplashes. Brass plumbing fixtures added a
touch of sophistication, harmonizing perfectly with the surrounding finishes.
