Dunham's Bay Residence

This comprehensive transformation project will reinvent an existing 1980’s home and dock, creating an Adirondack Camp and boathouse. Using a combination of full bed and veneer masonry, the building will grow from its shoreline site. Deep roof overhangs and trellises supported by heavy timber frames give the building’s edges a softened texture and character. The interior of the house is characterized by extensive use of woodwork and built-in cabinetry as well as light-filled, shaped ceilings.

Characterized by numerous craggy, lichen-covered outcroppings of ledge rock, the site is accessed from the main road on a downhill path. The house is nestled in a hollow that protects and masks the car court and entry from Lake George. Only upon passing through the entrance and into the great room does one experience the full dramatic views across and up the lake.
