This design and installation took place at the Eagle Rare offices on the campus of Buffalo Trace Distillery. Beautifying this area and creating a more visitor-friendly experience were the main objectives. The project included design of the parking lot, entrances, walkways, and road. It includes over 50 species of trees, shrubs, perennials, and grasses using the largest plant sizes available to us for an immediate effect. Usually we want to highlight architecture; here the owner wanted the building to be hidden from view. In this case we screened with multiple evergreen and deciduous layers with a healthy portion of native plants and groundcovers.

Plantings include seasonal interest plants such as Autumn Magic Chokeberry, Frans Fontaine Hornbeam, Bloodgood Plane tree, winterberry holly, groundcover sumac, bottlebrush buckeye, viburnums, spicebush, and several grasses and sedges. Large trees, often 3” in size or more, and other shrubs were used to instantly provide structure and screening for the nondescript office building. Many of the plants provide much needed shelter and sustenance for small wildlife, as well as nectar for pollinators in the large parking area positioned in downtown. We also hydroseeded the massive work area after completion of the plant installation to finish the project.
