The system designed was completely out of the box and unique, creating a user interface to allow research students to conduct experiments assisted by intercoms with two-way conversations, allowing guests to listen in and record at the same time. The 3,000 square foot lab features play stations for both PC and Xbox consoles and a control center dedicated to metrics tracking and video feed analysis and observation.

Additionally, the lab will contain a full physiology suite with all of the tools needed for physiological assessments like electrical heart, muscle and neuron activity in players. The participants’ area consisted of play test rooms, usability areas and console usability rooms. The researcher’s space was designed for observation and included a control room, conference room and a master control room.

The project couldn’t have had a better outcome. The UX lab is opening the doors to new educational experiences for students and members of the community. The User Experience Lab will address and execute 100+ research projects per year for companies from multiple industries, as well as provide a project-based teaching environment. Their twelve-month curriculum puts students in the classroom for five months before they get to spend seven months in the new User Experience Lab.
