Garage Conversion
The garage conversion is designed for a client in the Pacific Northwest, Washington. The young, first-time homeowner wanted an interior overhaul. Mainly both the kitchen and attached garage. The goal to increase the overall value of their home and maximize potential profits in the process. The design used many affordable off-the-shelf components to help cut costs.
The client came to us with a solid vision of what they imagined the home to be. Using their research and notes provided, we were able to come up with a solution. Being well-informed that both appealed to the aesthetic of the current owner. Also, adding to the resale value of the lot with the garage conversion.
Features for the 21st Century
The project included fully insulating the attached garage of this single-story, 1965 home, giving the resident a kitchen suitable for the 21st century. With this in mind, the home now allows for its owner to enjoy their space in leisure. Maximizing the existing square footage in a way that makes a greater impact on its owner’s daily life. Now, the home features energy-efficient appliances and sustainable building materials. Additionally, a full bath and tiled shower, with a walk-in closet, added to the new Primary suite in the space.
Given these points, the interior has been reimagined to fit the needs of its new owner. It can now carry the structure into the modern age. Physically, the structure of the home was minimally altered. In removing the home's chimney and raising the ceiling of the garage space, it now can accommodate its new room function. A tankless water heater replaced the homes aging unit. The structure's existing windows were re-caulked to cut resource consumption and reduce the home’s new central air system strain.
Furthermore, the interior design brought this mid-century home to contemporary living. The home showcases modern drum shades, quartz countertops, and dark-wood cabinetry throughout. The kitchen features stainless steel appliances for a modern feel and durable finish fit for any home cook. The original 1960’s hardwood flooring was re-finished. The existing bathroom received a facelift, maintaining its original charm while bringing it to modern standards.
