Mossy Grove

Mossy Grove is an extension to a two-story home. Located in Auburn, Washington, the original home was completed in 1935. An extension was added sometime in the 1950s. Although, it did not match the existing architecture. Our design included the addition of a bedroom above the 1950’s addon, complementing the original home.

The design was completed with the owner’s lifestyle in mind, including a spare bedroom above to accommodate visiting guests. A master suite in the main portion of the house was added as a remodel and attaching a full bath to suit our clients’ needs better while improving the resale value of the eighty-six-year-old home. The main floor of the additional features an auxiliary living space with added fireplace. This cozy den is perfectly suited for winter nights, curled up beside a fire or embracing the summer breeze, by opening the double doors in August to escape the heat.

Auburn, Washington is a city in King County, with just over 70,000 residents. It is a suburb of the Seattle Metropolitan area. Seattle is the 15th largest city in Washington State. The area has extensive parks and local art museums. Making for plenty of family-friendly festivities to attend.

Inspiration

The architecture of Mossy Grove is modest, though charming. Its cottage-like appearance was something that had to be maintained through the design process. The home’s steep pitched roof and almost gothic appearance were preserved and made suitable for the 21st century it so proudly resides in. The original features were maintained where possible. The design choices were made to complement the existing home’s character. Spaces that were once unusable attic space were converted to bedrooms and office spaces. The home was overhauled to suit the needs of its current owner better.
