Hillside

Hillside is located in a community not far south of the Canadian border, in Northwest Washington, called Point Whitehorn. This community sits high above the hilltops of beautiful Birch Bay in Blaine. Point Whitehorn offers stunning views of the Georgia Straight. In addition to the Canadian Coastal Mountain Ranges. An area is a lovely place for those interested in outdoor living. With multiple hiking trails and leisurely parks to stroll around on beautiful, northwestern days, with a rich maritime history. And located not far from Drayton Harbor. The area draws in a vast array of outdoor-loving individuals.

Inspiration

The client took on Hillside to modernize their 90's built home and customize the space to their liking. Since being built in 1999, the home has sat well maintained but unchanged for over two decades. The project included a total remodel. Creating an open concept and capitalizing on the wonderful views of Puget Sound, seen from the large picture windows located at the rear of the house. Furthermore, with an open floor plan, the spectacular view of this home can be appreciated from any point in the home. In other words, making it so that one can never forget the beautiful environment they call home.

Small alterations were made to the home's exterior, including removing a bump-out to accommodate larger windows. In addition, the deck had modifications created to maximize space for outdoor entertaining. The interior was completely overhauled, making room for a new staircase and a completely new kitchen.

Finished Project

The final home now sits comfortably with just under 2,000 square feet of living space (166 square meters). Therefore, it offers plenty of space for a couple or small family looking for their everyday getaway from the bustling city. Located about 30 minutes from Bellingham (The largest city north of Seattle). For instance, the site offers the convenience of living near a larger city with the county's privacy. The two-story home features four bedrooms and three bathrooms, with views from nearly every location.

Finally, Hillside, the house that stands today, is ready to take on at least another twenty-two years of use. The home sits as a cozy oasis, away from the busy city life. Sitting as an escape from traffic and noise pollution. Above all, perch yourself on the deck on a summer morning and enjoy the first sips of coffee. And listen to the spectacular local wildlife beckon you to the great outdoors.
