The homeowners approached us with an extensive renovation plan and clear expectations. Having recently moved back to Wisconsin, along with family members, they wanted a spacious area for entertaining grown children and grandchildren. Their priorities included a large patio for a dining table with ample room to move, an expansive kitchen with premium features, and a cozy spot for relaxing around a fire. They also loved cooking and spending time outdoors.
The main challenge was the sloping hill in the backyard and determining the best location for the entertaining space. While the yard was large, placing the new area in the center would create a “bowl” effect and disconnect it from the home and existing deck.
The final design featured a covered outdoor kitchen and dining area connected to the deck by a walkway. It also included an open space with a gas fire-bowl. To manage water flow, we added a dry French river and used outcropping stone for aesthetics and slope retention.
The project finished in mid-May 2024. During the yearly walkthrough, the homeowners have hosted several gatherings, raved about craftmanship, functionality and how pleased they were with the experience. They love their new space for laughing, dining, and dancing with their grandchildren.
