KAREN'S DREAM KITCHEN

It was time to replace the kitchen and flooring in this 1960's North Muskegon home; the project was started and completed in mid-2014.

A wall was removed to accomodate a hutch and china cabinets, cabinetry was installed in an existing closet, quartz counters with white subway-style backsplashes were added, and the entire first floor received engineered oak flooring throughout. Modern refrigerators extend out far beyond a standard 24" countertop, so the rear wall was removed and an alcove constructed to accomodate the extra depth into the garage area.

The homeowners wanted a small desktop in this area, and suggested removal and re-construction of the wall 12" into the living room space to allow traffic to pass behind the chair unimpeded. A very good idea!

The hutch, with glass cabinet doors revealing the fine china inside. The custom columns between the quartz top and hanging cabinets lend stability and allow electrical lines to feed outlets and undercabinet lighting.

This drawer was modified on-site to allow for the cooktop electronics box at rear, which would not allow the drawer to be used as designed.

A slot in the base of the brick fireplace was grinded in place to allow the flooring to be installed without clumsy trim pieces or caulking, which allowed for a clean look.
