Meadows are a new obsession and one of the biggest environmental trends in landscaping. We had so much fun creating and monitoring this natural meadow that started in a back yard where a large part of existing lawn was just left to grow. We started by allowing grass to grow naturally and mowing it only around the edges to keep a clean look. At first this was a beautiful and lush grassy area that later changed when new plants started to emerge. It was amazing to see a vast variety of plants appearing and disappearing only to take turns without any intervention. Eventually it transformed into a dramatic field of wild flowers full of butterflies, bees, bunnies, and birds. In the end of the season fall colors started creeping into the field changing it yet again by adding browns and greys of drying plant colors. We decided to add native plant plugs and seeds to this area and can't wait to see how this will transform the area even more throughout the following seasons.
