MCM Home Revival

The original of this Mid Century inspired stunner was retro in the "it has the original kitchen" kind of way. You know when it's made to sound like it's a gem but really it's just stuck in the past. While the homeowners were fans of MCM design, the original kitchen left a lot to be desired. True to the era, this Victoria kitchen was compact and segregated from the rest of the home. With generous space in the adjacent rooms available for expansion, the homeowners knew taking down the walls would easily give them the flexibility to create a more functional footprint.

Keeping in step with the mid-century bones of the rest of the home, design partner RNJ Interiors smartly went with Shinnoki's Smoke Walnut throughout to honour the era and paired the deep wood tones with pure whites and rich brass. The simple palette gives a strong MCM stance without feeling retro bringing the design into modern days. The new floorplan opens up the kitchen giving ample counter space for prepping, entertaining and eating-in while flanking pantries showcase a niche reveal used to balance all the rich walnut.

With the design firmly in this century, the homeowners are proud to show off their retro-inspired kitchen and leave the dated original in the past.
