The Pemberton

Brighter, better workflow, and optimized functionality? Check, check, and check! This kitchen, while not lacking in storage, lacked a layout that suited the family's lifestyle. The original U-shape of the perimeter created a boxed-in footprint that made it impossible for more than one person to work in the kitchen at a time without conflict and forced everyone through a single route through the kitchen when passing through from the dining to the living room.

Revising the layout by removing the peninsula and adding in an island allows the homeowners to have the kids at the counter for breakfast while Mom and Dad prep school lunches and make morning coffees all without any traffic jams. The new layout takes full advantage of the back wall allowing for wall-to-wall pantry storage and fridge placement. With the storage needs met the area around the sink's bay window can remain open with only a pair of floating shelves allowing the abundance of natural light to flow into the space freely.

Blending the Heritage Shaker and slab Shinnoki profiles gives this North Vancouver home a twist that keeps it fresh while the layered neutral palette lightens the space, adds texture and interest while remaining classic.
