Strong interior design elements harmonize in this simple, clean-lined Northwest style remodeled kitchen. The kitchen-family room was originally built with a vaulted wood ceiling anchored by the sturdy, rustic wood beam bisecting the space and drawing a strong horizontal line across the room. My thought was to create its counterpoint -- a compelling vertical mass -- and accomplished this by adding a custom steel hood hand-finished to match the burnished look of a vintage steel-and-glass dining table located elsewhere in the home.
