Mountain Ridge Road Bathroom

This master bath project involved redesigning the floor plan of two awkward existing bathrooms. Improving the function of the space meant closing up one of the entrances and taking down a wall in order to connect the two rooms. The new master bath is a relaxing retreat with good natural lighting, a spacious two-person shower, a large vanity area with two sinks and plenty of storage, and a lovely free-standing tub.
The free-standing tub and its lovely faucet are a centerpiece. The new shutters give privacy when needed and have a lighter effect than than the curtains there before.

What was a long room with only a tub now is a much more comfortable place for two people to get ready in the morning. Also, a heat mat under the tile helps keep the toes toasty!

A linen cabinet, plenty of drawers, and the cabinet between the sinks give good amounts of storage. The sconces flanking the mirrors are on dimmers.

We highlighted the tub area with more of the glass and slate mosaic tile used in the shower.

Closing up the old entrance to the smaller bathroom and taking down most of the wall that used to separate the two rooms created a much better space with more natural light and a larger shower.

We used a glass and slate accent tile to complement the porcelain tile walls and floor. The shower bench top and threshold are custom cut marble pieces.

We replaced the ceiling fan with a lovely chandelier. Taking a bath with the lights dimmed feels even more luxurious.

The tub room was otherwise basically empty. The baseboard heat and access to the attic would have to be relocated, and water lines would need to be run.

The vanity, shower, and toilet were all in one bathroom, while the tub was in another big room all alone. For two people getting ready in the morning this room could get crowded.

The shower room felt cramped compared to the spaciousness of the tub room.

The shower room had access to the water closet, but when we decided to open up the space and combine the two rooms into one, we hid the toilet from the tub with a half wall.
