Chris and Candy initially thought they would build a French country house—whatever that may be. Researching distinctive houses, they were referred to archignition studio. Chris was intrigued with a rather random, whimsical stone house from our studio library, but we could see that it would exceed their budget. Their site—a wooded ridge on the north side of town with fine trees, rhododendrons, dogwoods, and hollys—made “fitting” such a new residence a challenge as well. Within a few weeks, archignition had a concept design that fit the site and the budget and captured the wacky, whimsical, modern character they desired.
The finished home is 3,600 square feet (not including the finished walkout lower level). Each of the five key masses are clad in a different pallet of materials and colors. It is truly one of a kind.
