Pleasant Avenue Renovation
A young couple relocating from Silicon Valley to South Minneapolis called our studio to help breathe new life into their recently purchased turn-of-the-century home. Compared to their home in California this new home was loaded with square footage and classic 'bones' but lacked the warmth and function desired by this young growing family. Surrounding finishes like backsplashes, flooring, and countertops were dated and in bad shape. These factors cleared the slate for a clean, updated look while retaining 75 percent of the cabinetry was modified to create a large gathering/dining island and added pantry storage. A wall divided the kitchen from a circa 1980's addition which also had a flooring level change, disjointing this valuable family space from the kitchen. The wall was removed to open the rooms to one other and the floor was raised to create a contiguous single level. A cozy wood burning fireplace and new furnishings were added to complete the open plan. The couple also needed to update a large but dysfunctional main bathroom. Eaves which previously were filled with hard-to-reach closet space, were opened up to create more floorspace in the room. A double vanity, new fixtures, finishes, and heated floor were added to complete this family bathroom. As their family expands this couple is braced for all the joys a hustling household will bring!
