Seeing RED - Modern Kitchen Makeover
A modern kitchen makeover in brave and vibrant colours: wow.
Red and a crisp white contrasts with a grounding dark charcoal grey. This galley-style kitchen has full height windows, so north-facing ambient light pours into the space.
This kitchen was done on a budget. We re-used the existing sturdy oak cabinet boxes (including the island cabinets), and new doors were installed. Then we extended cabinetry up to the ceiling to provide much-needed extra storage space without altering the overall layout. Sleek horizontal metal drawer and door pulls on the cabinetry bring a symmetry of style to the space.
A white quartzite counter top throughout and large-block wavy white porcelain backsplash tile adds bright balance to the dark grey porcelain floor tiles and new stainless steel appliances. While this is a small kitchen, measuring 10 feet by 14 feet, it is very functional. We chose to extend the new island countertop to be four feet longer than the original: this provides a larger food prep area and some extra seating/dining space.
To complete the sleek makeover, we flush-mounted lighting throughout the space. There were high fives all around on this project.
