This home in Olde Carlsbad was built on one large slope, front and back! The slope in front was retained with old railroad ties and dusty, over-grown junipers. The back had a dilapidated deck and crumbling retaining wall. The home owner had numerous designs from contractors, but never felt her vision was being captured. After meeting with the client and going over what the needs were for the space (play area for kids, fire pit, jacuzzi, large bbq area with seating and dining area, putting green etc.) the scene was set. The area was transformed with retaining walls in the front and the back with gray smooth stucco. The fire pit was clad in stone veneer that coordinates nicely with the Bluestone tile inset down below on the main level. A new modern, fence was put up around the perimeter of the property. Hog fence borders the outside front to keep the look light and airy. Poured in place concrete leads to the existing front walkway. The Mrs. of the family built the chicken coop and the horizontal planters in the back. I was so blessed to work with an awesome client who has good design sensibility and trusted and believed in my abilities.
