The Back Road
This home was purchased in June, 2016 with the intention of being a full-time, “forever” home.
Having been built in the early 1990’s, the home was very dated. It had previously been a second home and vacation rental and was desperately in need of updating. Despite its white carpeting, glossy “orange” wood finishes, white tile countertops and funky floor plan, the house had great bones and was in the Glenbrook community, where the owners wanted to plant roots.
As the oldest settlement on Lake Tahoe, Glenbrook’s vast history was a huge draw for the owners. Having been the main supplier of timber to the Comstock Load and Virginia City, Glenbrook became a popular tourist destination for wealthy travelers in the early 1900’s, arguably one of the most famous of which was Mark Twain.
Being a part of that unique history was incredibly special for the homeowners. In fact, their vision for the home was a nod to the beauty and history of old Glenbrook. And thus, began a two plus-year remodel, affecting 100% of the home, inside and out.
Some of the highlights include enclosing existing patios to gain additional 600 sq. ft. (without utilizing coverage), adding a back patio and firepit, incorporating a radiant floor heating system, integrating an elevator, and gaining an additional bedroom/home office, exercise room, wine cellar and 2 baths.
