This young family bought their starter home with a lifeless backyard, consisting of an enclosed structure: 8ft. high block walls and lots of concrete. The sun was so intense, the yard was essentially unusable. First item to design: SHADE. A trellis with built in bench seating serves as the focal point for this yard. By opening up judicious areas of concrete we were able to plant a variety of shade trees, vines, colorful and drought tolerant plants. This diversity of plants, now draws butterflies, humming birds and produces a variety of foods that include: Pomegranate, Blueberries, Artichokes and Rosemary. There are varieties of Lavender, and Jasmine to delight the senses as well. As this yard fills in, it will explode with seasonal change of color and bounty. With 325 sunny days a year, their new yard will triple their living space and increase the value of their home.
