Westlake Addition
This project opened up a dark and dated 1970's home and gave it new life with natural light, fresh new materials, and increased storage throughout the house. The homeowners love to cook and wanted high-end appliances, sleek custom cabinets, and a large island to accommodate their family’s busy lifestyle. The existing kitchen was small and isolated. By removing the rear exterior wall and expanding into the back yard, we provided a large kitchen that became the new focal point for the house.
The old kitchen was absorbed into the living and playroom areas, which resulted in a more open flow, and extra room for an additional office area for a busy working mom. Custom built-ins serve as playroom storage on one side of the new space, and an organized office area on the other. A custom sliding barn door offers separation from the living room when desired.
Throughout the house we introduced contemporary lighting, larger windows, and updated finishes. In the kitchen, colorful pendants were suspended from a sleek modern track to bring task light from the sloped ceiling. A beautiful patterned Porcelanosa backsplash subtly highlights the tall wall behind the range, and natural rift cut white oak cabinets offer warmth and texture. Old carpet was replaced with natural hickory wood floors, and a fresh white palette throughout serves as a perfect backdrop for light-hearted and vibrant accents in this fun new environment.
