The edge of an underdeveloped lot in a historic neighborhood provides opportunity for new housing within walking distance of the amenities of Central City. Solstice worked closely with the developer and Salt Lake City to design a set of attached homes suited to the scale and character of the surroundings.
Windsor adds a twin home, two identical housing units mirrored along a shared wall, to a compact lot along a quiet residential street. This example of “missing middle” housing is a quieter step toward addressing the housing crisis than the more ubiquitous and land-intensive podium apartments and townhome developments. It’s one that relies on creativity and context to find opportunity to integrate additional housing, with minimal disturbance, into well-established neighborhoods.
The materials, building form and architectural features demonstrate a contemporary interpretation of design elements found throughout the neighborhood, and allowed the project to receive planning approval.
The outcome is a modern, single-family living experience with great access to every amenity that downtown Salt Lake City has to offer.
