Atherton Residence
This Atherton residence underwent a dramatic transformation: from a traditional English-style home into a light-filled, contemporary compound that embraces its expansive natural setting. Designed for a young entrepreneurial couple and their children, the project reimagines the original structure to connect seamlessly with the surrounding landscape while infusing the interiors with refined elegance.
At the heart of the home, a sculptural three-story stair curves skyward beneath an elliptical skylight and a cascading custom chandelier. Rooms were opened to one another and to the gardens beyond, resolving awkward geometries and welcoming daylight into every corner. The design simplifies detailing, softens transitions, and reorients the home to embrace outdoor living year-round.
A crisp off-white palette and natural finishes—paired with layers of subtle texture—interact with shifting light throughout the day. Every space opens toward an exterior moment: a rose garden, a pool, or a heritage oak. The result is a thoughtful, site-sensitive renovation that celebrates both elegance and ease.

“The original structure turned its back on the expansive landscape and beautiful natural environment unique to Northern California. Our redesign brings that setting into every space.”
