Chapman Renovations

Once upon a time, a beautiful young family contacted our office for a full house renovation. Our clients bought a house at Chapman Blvd. and they asked us for a full design + build. They wanted to renovate the main and second floors, add a new powder room and an ensuite bathroom. They also wanted major structural changes to one of the dormers to enlarge master bedroom.

"Take the keys and let us know when you are done!" our client said. Ding dong, the OakWood team is at their front door. After finalizing the details, we teamed up and decided to work on the project together. The results: a beautiful home which they will enjoy for many years to come.

Transitional style was achieved by combining modern and rustic. We removed the wall between the kitchen and dining to open up the space. The kitchen cabinets are in white thermofoil with a stunning Bianco Carrara backsplash tiles. They were laid in herringbone pattern to add some interest and to complement the flat cabinet doors. To warm up the look, concrete Caesarstone countertops were installed in two different thicknesses: 1 1/4" around the perimeter, and 2 1/2" on the peninsula with a nice waterfall design to finish the side. To harmonize the overall look, grey tiles were installed on the floor of the kitchen, main entry and powder room to provide visual continuity.

The powder room, although it was challenging to determine the size of the new powder room, we were able to come up with the perfect size without compromising the flow and circulation on the main floor. Our client showed the designer a wallpaper sample that they really liked and wanted to incorporate it into the design of the powder room - New York buildings vintage silkscreen wall paper covered three of the powder-room walls and the fourth wall was covered with 4” x 6” cap shining white tiles and they were laid in 1/3 brick pattern. The floor tiles continue from the hallway into the powder room and goes up the walls as a 4" baseboard. It was finished with a Designline metal trim and a finish that complete the faucet. A wall hung toilet with the tank concealed in the wall expands the size of the room. Full width mirror was installed on the vanity wall to make the room look bigger, two pendant lights hang from the ceiling and are installed 1/3 - 2/3 the distance between the side walls.

Rustic and vintage elements were used throughout the main door, starting from the walnut stained white oak door, bringing back the wood burning fireplace and keeping the original brick surround and mantel.

The added upstairs ensuite bathroom increased the functionality of the master bedroom. A warm pallet was achieved by using the Hispania Katan Noce floor tiles, 4” x 12” rak classic Cassino on the shower walls with warm Bone grout. The vintage Horus art coriandoli corresponds to the overall concept throughout the house. A free standing double drawer vanity in Espresso definitely added warmth to the space and a full-width frameless mirror to keep the design minimal.
