Havelock Kitchen
This renovation took place in a row-house condominium, in the heart of downtown Ottawa, across from Ottawa University. The before kitchen featured a cluster of wall, separating the dining room, from the kitchen table and from the actual kitchen. It made the space very un-efficient and cramped.
The major part of this renovation was removing the dividing walls. Initially OakWood had planned to remove the complete wall between the dining room and kitchen, but later found out that it was indeed load bearing. The home owners had to settle for only a section of the wall to be removed. The section removed was creatively transformed into a small eating area for 2.
At the material selections meeting the homeowner was impressed with what OakWood had imagined her renovation to look like. The selections were chosen within an hour.
The final result demonstrates simplicity and minimalism. The homeowner chose standard cabinets that blend well with the melamine countertops. Custom shelving was introduced near the fridge area, as well as a neat wine rack.
In the end the kitchen fits the condo's style. The design isn't over the top and blends well with the homeowners taste and family.
