Chatham, Cape Cod: Custom Addition & Renovation
After retiring and making Cape Cod their primary residence, these homeowners decided to expand and renovate. An addition, housing a great room and four-season sunroom, was the focus of the project with smaller changes made throughout the home. Using a shallow attic above a portion of the existing home allowed the great room to have a cathedral ceiling with a series of peaks. Custom-built cabinetry and a window seat were added for architectural detail and storage. The sunroom, which opens off the great room, has a cathedral ceiling lined with exposed beams adding a rustic feel. In the existing living room, a new banister and newel post on the stairway, and custom-built shelving give the room a more contemporary feel which is in keeping with the addition. An upstairs bathroom was also completely renovated and a small addition to the walk-in closet in the master suite was added to accommodate a washer and dryer.
