This project expanded a home, located in Chatham, creating a year-round, separate residence for the homeowner’s daughter, son-in-law and grandson. The custom-designed addition measures just 19-x-20 feet and includes a full kitchen and bath, a living area, bedroom and spacious second-story loft with a dining area. Space-saving features include pocket doors and a ship’s-style ladder, rather than a staircase, for access to the loft. We created the transition from the main home, constructed by Patriot Builders in 2000, to the addition through an existing bedroom. Incorporating the existing room, now the grandson’s bedroom, into the new portion of the home expanded the living space of the addition while providing privacy for each family.
