Cherry Kitchen 2006

I will admit to not being a big fan of Cherry. It is brittle, I don't like how it finishes and I don't think it is particularly interesting to look at. In this case however the unique attributes of the shape of the space, the mix of new versus existing components, made for an interesting and fun project and a final result I was very happy with.

The sink in the corner here makes great sense from a usage perspective. The "three points" issue is resolved with the bar sink in the island. Here you have triangular cabinets to the right of the sink and left of the dishwasher but all usable.

The available space needed to take advantage of the many windows and open floorplan created by removing a structural wall which had previously seperated the rear of the house from the rear porches. The net result is not much wall space in the kitchen "end", but lots of light and easy walking...

The island and penninsula make up for the shortage of traditional counter space in a useable manner.

Nice andopen feeling, taller, shallower cabinets to the left keep the space open feeling while providing approximate storage space and a nice visual break pushing the viewer towards the door area.

Note the highly detailed scratch-built cabinetry above the range hood. Accomplishing this type detail prevented the owner from feeling the need to purchase a new, wider range hood as they were quite content with the operation of the one they had when the project was started.

Note the funky cabinet to the right of the fridge. this houses a scratch-built trapezoidal closet used as a pantry. We did all the trim and fitting by hand here.
