Master Suite Cabinetry 2012

Master Bedroom Suite designed by local architects Brennan + Company (www.brennanarch.com) This is a complex set of cabinets in two rooms of an oddly shaped master suite. There were cabinet carcasses, furniture piece cabinets (the black pieces) and much scratch-built field work.

Any complex project must have paper guidance of some sort, in this case we had complete architectural drawings of cabinet layout and intention.

Still, it is very cool to have even more of the architect or designers thoughts. Here we have a hand drawing captured on one of the plan pages for us to reference.

Nifty storage area behind lower furniture piece. Obvious in intention but hard in execution. Exactly where or how should the door break occur??

Sometimes you can't get the pics you really want until after the homeowner has "occupied" the space! Here is the niche area built-in again showing the lighting. Carcasses below, scratch-built upper area. This also shows the black furniture piece termination to the white cabs.

Tall furniture piece armoire, note the perfect clearance on the top left to the wall versus the meld into the dormer at right. Much of living in, modifying and designing for older homes is about compromise.

Each termination into an existing wall had a slightly different angle and needed to be scribed accordingly to look and fit correctly. All varied between 40 and 42 degress. Deciding how the base / cabinets meet can make or break the appearance of a "built-in" like this.

Off angle work demands a different eye on the part of the designer but also on the part of the builder. Making cabinetry look good in 3 or more different planes is extraordinarily complex.
