Chevy Chase Renovation
This home was designed to accommodate a family with three kids and pets. The mom wanted a feminine adult space, the dad wanted ample room for entertaining, and the kids needed space to have fun. Our La Cañada studio focused on the front entry, living room, and dining room to achieve all of the above. The former space had dark paneled walls, dated cabinetry, low windows, and a soot-covered, built-in BBQ/grill that limited the spaces. We brightened the areas by painting out most of the dark paneling, adding new lights, and raised the height of the windows with new window treatments.
We also added more functional storage. We re-built the front entry cabinets and added a mudroom bench and cubbies. In the dining room, we added a formal buffet and a glass breakfront. The family wanted to keep the BBQ/grill, so we replaced the stone facia with ledge stone and added quartz counters to the threshold. Another structural change we made was to the balustrade. We changed the balustrades of the front entry steps to wrought iron as we felt it suited the home better and complemented the new, open feel of the entry. The living room is a haven for bonding with friends and family. The seating configuration can accommodate adults and teenagers, and it's used by the entire family. The kids use it for playing video-games; the mom spends me-time on the chaise by the window, and dad loves utilizing the dining room BBQ/grill to cook and entertain.
