The pub origins of this basement were set by the prior homeowners, the husband’s family — his father, in particular. This basement was always meant as a destination for Dad. Our La Cañada studio wanted to preserve the tradition and theme of the space. The bones and original design direction were on point. It just needed a plaid pub facelift. The paneling and cabinets were in near-perfect condition. The herringbone brick walls around the bathroom and wine cellar added the perfect textural balance and gave us the inspirational nudge for a new palette. We deepened the woodwork with ebony stain and enriched this new moody man-cave with two inspiring wall coverings: a black and cream plaid fabric on the main room walls and a show-stopping Phillip Jeffries wallpaper on the curved hallway walls.
