Classic Transitional "Aging in Place" Master Bath

Top concerns for this homeowner were the miniscule shower and unattractive appearance of her master bath. As was the fashion at the time, the builder had provided an extra-large tub deck and 30” x 30” shower – hardly considered standard today. It was difficult for anyone to envision spending another decade or more with this drab, contemporary bath.

With an eye to potential physical limitations down the road, the new floor plan included an expanded 36” doorway, increased turning radius and accessible commode area. A decorative opaque panel for privacy and combo toilet tissue/grab bar along with expansive shower/bath area, with handheld showerhead, built-in seat and grab bars, ensures that decreased mobility will not be an issue.

A classic palette based on porcelain stone-like tile, glass accent tile, cream cabinetry and Millenium Cream granite lends a richness that was lacking before. Increased storage along with heated floors and his ‘n her medicine cabinets with interior outlet maximize the functionality of this bath. Improved LED lighting, including magnifying makeup mirror, highlight the vanity and bathing area. Serene and cohesive, a great way to begin and end anyone’s day.
