Happy-Go-Lucky kitchen, transitional
Some things are meant to last . . . and, in this case, white cabinets, but all else in this kitchen was reminiscent of a 20 year-old remodel. As is often the case, major appliances were beginning to fail, the countertop microwave unnecessarily large, and the work triangle so congested that baking and meal prep were limited to one corner of the kitchen. Z-brick, maroon Formica and white ceramic floor tile lacked warmth and flair, and meant, clearly, it was time to remodel.
A separate double oven, cooktop, and built-in microwave makes better use of this space while allowing for a dedicated coffee area and plenty of counter work surface. Improved cabinet accessories like roll-out shelves, tray dividers, and trash/recycling bins bring more ergonomic order and still allow for the reuse of the owner’s fabulous 3-bowl sink. Decorative elements like the wood hood, banquette/pantry display, and wainscot ends bring much needed style and complement the luxury vinyl tile flooring, P/Kaufmann fabric, and “luscious lime” tile. Updated, transparent lighting allows the owner to bring favor to her beloved original art and make this space happy, bright, and cheerful.
