Elegant Kitchen
This house on a cul de sac in suburban Virginia had a dark outdated kitchen.
The clients wished to improve the flow at the entrance from the foyer, open the space up to the adjacent family room, and create a more efficient kitchen for cooking and to entertain family and friends.
Entrances from the laundry room and powder room into the hall off the kitchen and breakfast area were relocated. Moving the laundry to the second floor created room for a large closet off the garage entrance, a pantry, and drop zone area. The powder room was rotated to provide a more discreet entrance.
The old U-shaped kitchen had cut off the space from the breakfast area and family room. This problem was solved by turning the island to run parallel to the bay window and sink wall. The soffits in the kitchen were removed so that the new cabinets could extend to the ceiling. A new range and hood created a focal point at the end of the new island.
The design incorporates warm white and white rift oak cabinets with an oak apron on the hood. These finishes complement the new wide plank oak flooring installed throughout the house.
The refrigerator, freezer, speed oven, and storage cabinets are integrated into a wall of tall cabinets with stainless steel fronts. This wall is surrounded by white rift oak panels, a hidden side storage cabinet and open lit display cabinets above. The stainless finish is an unexpected surprise when you walk into the kitchen and turn to see it. Brushed brass fixtures and hardware mix together with the white, oak and stainless beautifully.
In addition to the durable quartz countertops is a cantilevered white oak wood top with a pigmented Nero oil finish at the island. This unique counter is the perfect place to pull up a stool and enjoy this beautiful new kitchen.
