Modern Beauty

This historic 1930s home in Maryland underwent a large renovation to meet the needs of our client’s growing family. The design includes a spacious new kitchen with adjacent breakfast area, a new family room, and a large screened porch with a wonderful view of the back yard.

At the entrance to the kitchen from the family room are two parallel cased openings. A tall pantry cabinet on one side and a tall bar cabinet on the other are seamlessly housed between the two openings. These cabinets’ wood tops complement the wood topped table, with seating for four, adjacent to the kitchen island. The island features a prep sink, second dishwasher, wine cooler and concealed storage under the table.

A custom hood over the cooktop is centered on the wall across from the cased openings. This is flanked by windows, a refrigerator on the right and tall cabinet that stores small countertop appliances on the left. The marble countertop extends into the appliance storage cabinet behind bi-fold and retracting doors.

Central to the design of the kitchen was finding a home for a treasured spice box passed down from mother to daughter. We located this family heirloom in a prominent position. Other features include display shelves, a tall cabinet with two ovens, a warming drawer, and a convenient broom closet.

Warm white shaker cabinets with beautiful crown moulding, burnished nickel hardware, wood and marble countertops and backsplashes complement this historic home and create a wonderful new gathering place for family
and friends.
