Kitchen in Chesapeake Bay
As the centerpiece of a new-build with expansive water views, this kitchen is designed to balance architectural refinement with the needs of a young family. Every material and detail was chosen to create a space that is both timeless and approachable.
Across from the sweeping view of the water, the kitchen’s focal point is a 48” ILVE range beneath a custom plaster hood with a white oak and brass-trimmed apron. Below the hood is a high marble backsplash and ledge, which is both beautiful and functional. The range wall brings together all of the kitchen’s defining finishes – stone, wood, brass, black, and warm white tones. This palette carries throughout the space.
The black range, with brass accents, finds its counterpart in the black island with brass feet and hardware. White oak used on the countertop of the small island, is also featured at the back of the main island, and on the hood apron. Walnut drawer boxes and cabinet interiors are used throughout the kitchen.
A large island with a thick marble top and waterfall ends runs parallel to the range wall. This houses the main sink, dishwasher, and a microwave drawer with seating on the opposite side. White oak panels conceal additional storage at the back of the island and line the inside of the two marble sides, which accommodates seating.
The prep-sink wall features an elegant marble sink front and full-height marble backsplash. This wall showcases two sets of ceiling mounted brass brackets that support glass display shelves. On either side of the glass shelves, cabinetry extends from the ceiling down to the counters. These cabinets conceal small appliances like the espresso machine and toaster to keep surfaces uncluttered.
To further conceal essentials, tailored inserts are located on each side of the range. These handy pull-out cabinets store knives, paper towels, cutting boards, cooking utensils and more.
The smaller island with inset cabinetry painted in black is designed with form and function in mind. This furniture-like piece provides a graceful transition between the spaces. Table linens and serving pieces are stored on the dining side of the island. On the kitchen side, the island incorporates a beverage refrigerator and docking drawer for charging phones and tablets.
With every detail considered, this kitchen is a place where elegance, durability, and memory-making converge.
