The owners wanted us to open up the kitchen, making it larger and better laid out, hoping to take advantage of the views to the west. We proposed a small addition, allowing the kitchen to shift south alongside the dining room. This way both rooms could share the view. We enlarged the dining room, which allowed space for casual family gathering near an existing fireplace. A pantry occupies the space of the previous kitchen, along with a closet containing media equipment and a home office behind a sliding frosted glass door. We also rearranged the entry sequence to the house, creating a better connection between the dining room and the living room. The entry also incorporates a small mudroom-type closet.
