Magnolia Remodel

This beautiful 1924 Tudor-style home overlooking Elliott Bay in Magnolia has been renovated to adapt to a contemporary lifestyle. The owners wanted to update the house while preserving original details and taking full advantage of the stunning view.

The kitchen had been on the eastern side of the house, blocked from the water view by a butler's pantry and breakfast nook. We combined the three rooms and added about three feet to the northern side of the building. The kitchen now stretches the length of the building, with a full island, views to the west, and light from the east. All the bathrooms were renovated: the main floor powder room has sparkle and drama; the more traditional second-floor bath has hex tile floors and subway tile wainscot; the master bath has a full soaking tub and twin pedestal sinks; and the third-floor bath retains the original fixtures from a 1950s remodel, now with new coordinating tile.

The library was reconfigured, removing two doors and adding full built-in bookshelves and a Craftsman-style wallpaper frieze and custom fireplace mantle. The master suite sitting room also has a wallpaper frieze and retains its original fireplace. The attic rooms were updated to the quality of the rest of the house.. Finally, a whimsical forced perspective hallway gives the impression of additional length throughout the second floor.
