Villa Luna

A contemporary remodel of the main floor of a 1953 midcentury modern home in Seattle’s Seward Park neighborhood. We created an open floor plan by removing the wall that separated the kitchen and dining room, which had the added bonus of opening the kitchen to the view of Lake Washington. A new door leading to the front deck provides cross ventilation and greater connection to the outdoors. Cabinets in the corner provide a convenient place near the door to stash leashes and keys, and a built-in bench for changing shoes.

The master bath had been unaltered since the house was built. The owner wanted to convert the cramped space to a modern contemporary bathroom with a spalike feel. We retained the room’s shape and relatively small size, and used the cabinetry and materials to create a calm and elegant style. The vanity consists of two horizontal planes, finished with walnut and a stone countertop. A large walk-in shower modernizes the space, while the curbless entry ensures accessibility.
