Make-up air for a range hood

Today's commercial style gas rangetops require high quality exhaust hoods of more than 400 cfm. Today's building code requires make-up air to be supplied to any hoods over 400 cfm. There are expensive ways to add this makeup air to the existing HVAC system so that it can be heated or cooled before coming into the house. But if the makeup air is introduced right at the rangetop, there is no need to condition the incoming air.
In this example there is a 10" duct under the floor in the crawlspace, with a motorized damper that is interconnected to the hood. When the hood is turned on, the damper in the duct opens and allows fresh air to come in. The round duct makes a transition to a narrow rectangular duct as it comes through the floor and the rectangular duct comes up in the cabinet behind the rangetop. It terminates in a wood grille in the maple countertop. Under the maple grille is a stainless steel grille that prevents debris from falling into the ductwork.
