Southpointe House

House for a retiring couple in the south hills of Eugene. Great south facing outdoor space with a wonderful garden. It includes an outbuilding for a shop and RV storage designed as a barn.

This is the lavatory in the guest bathroom on the first floor. It is shared by the guest bedroom and the home office and is accessible to visitors
Bathroom
This is the back hallway that leads from the garage and the master bedroom, past the utility room and on to the kitchen/dining room. The windows and French doors on the left open to the garden.

This is the short hallway from the garage to the main back hall. It also has French doors out to the south facing garden.

This is the dining room side of the great room. It opens to the south-facing garden with sliding French doors. The floors are recycled Douglas Fir.

This is the entry as seen from the Living Room. The main stair comes down into the entry and leads to the kitchen. There is a small intersecting hall that leads to the guest room, office and guest bath. The edge of the living room is defined by half walls and box columns.

Just on the eastern edge of the kitchen is this breakfast nook that seats about 4 people. The seating and table is built-in. There is an interior window that provides a view to the south garden and a regular window with a view of the driveway and parking area.

Home office for two people with built-in desks and storage. Off to the right is a stand-up desk.

The other half of the great room is the kitchen with this generous island facing the dining room. There are no upper cabinets except for the full height built-ins at either end of the kitchen.
Kitchen
This porch is an extension of the middle of the house tucked between the crossing front wing and crossing back wing. It faces south to the garden and is roofed with shingles and curb-less skylights. All the main rooms of the house have French doors opening onto this porch.

The roofs cascade down from the main roof and bathroom dormer to the lower roof of the guest room to the trellis on top of the privacy fence.

The front of the house is very traditional Eastern style, but the house appears to have been built in stages with a front, middle and back section, each having a different siding material.
Entry
Most of the main rooms of the house open onto this porch via sliding French doors. There are a total 5 sets of these doors onto this porch.

This is the entry and stair hall. The Living room is to the left, separated by the half walls and the kitchen/dining room is straight ahead. Note the generous light from the south facing porch.

The is the barn on the north side of the site. It shields the house from traffic of a major city street and provides parking for an RV as well as a wood shop.

On the east end of the main porch is a breezeway off the master bedroom with a roof that shelters the hot tub. Supporting the south end of the roof is the garden shed.
