MODERN SAN DIEGO FLAT
The scope of work for m.a.p. interiors was to turn a mostly white and uninspired apartment into a modern, colorful space with some warm, Eastern accents.
The dwelling was designed for a hip young couple from Europe. They asked for a modern design with colorful accents. At the same time they were drawn towards a calm Zen atmosphere and Asian details.
The existing shiny travertine floor was replaced with a dark coffee brown strained bamboo wood, a sustainable and environmentally friendly material. The walls were painted in a two-tone warm gray and green, with stripes that gave some interest to the space. The traditional looking fireplace was completely rebuilt with a new firebox and covered in modern Porcelanosa tiles from Spain. The vibrant red contrasts nicely with the dark wood floor.
The furniture was kept comfortable and neutral. The contemporary Maria Yee dining table was accentuated with modern red leather chairs that mirrored the color of the fireplace. The dark gray tweed sectional received some colorful accessories to cheer it up and a colorful rug that tied the room together. Everything was chosen to be clean lined and sleek, but warm and inviting at the same time.
Sylvia Beez, principal of m.a.p. interiors inc., is a European-born designer who takes her inspiration from her travels around the world. Her approach is international and eclectic as she blends world cultures with a variety of design styles in order to create a vibrant and timeless atmosphere. The result is a playful and creative interpretation of contemporary living in Southern California.
