PLAZA
The marriage of old and new is one of the hallmarks of this elegant high-rise apartment. Sylvia Beez, Principal of the Southern California design firm m.a.p interiors inc., designed this space located in Irvine. Her clients, a couple with adult kids, decided to move from a large suburban single family home into a more urban, high rise apartment with the convenience of a 24 hour lobby service, on site gym facility, pools and no yard maintenance. They were envisioning their new lifestyle in a luxurious loft style apartment that was contemporary on one side, but would still radiate the old world charm they liked. The couple were particularly looking for a livable and functional space where they could live in comfort while having enough room to host lectures and entertain friends and family.
Sylvia Beez decided to go for a transitional style for the home by combining contemporary, clean-lined elements with the clients’ existing antiques and other touches with antique charm.
The open living space was divided into three distinctive areas: the living room, the dining room, and the kitchen. The kitchen was kept spacious and open. It consists of custom designed cherry cabinetry that hides some of the stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, a glass tile backsplash, and a spacious center island. For the living room space Beez custom designed the two large sofas and the spacious cocktail table to accommodate up to twelve guests. Luxurious fabrics with different textures, all soft to the touch, have been used throughout the apartment. The dining room holds a unique light fixture, and the dining table can be extended in order to serve twelve people.
Soothing warm colors dominate the design of this luxurious apartment, accompanied by hues taken from nature. The flooring, for most parts, is kept in a light beige tone with marble tiles in a glossy finish. The walls are covered in a darker beige that works well with the marble and all wood types. Accent walls have been accentuated with exquisite wallpaper, like the hand printed one in the master bedroom. It came from San Francisco and has been manufactured to order.
