Young, hip couple relocated from NYC and purchased a spec home that was void of personality. They want to enjoy entertaining in their home, and eventually start a family. We create style and drama using contrasting bold colors -- primarily midnight black with snow white, set upon dark hardwood floors. Upon entry, an inviting conversation area consisting of four over-sized swivel chairs upholstered in taupe mohair surround the parlor's white painted brick fireplace. Entertainment center is hidden in the washed oak cabinets. Dining connects to parlor, and both impart drama and depth with moody black walls paired with stark whites, with accents of brass and pops of neutral. Dining is updated with high chair rail, a vigorous patterned ceiling and a generous table that seats ten. Dining’s wallpapered ceiling is by a North Carolina artist and is considered a unique art piece. An inviting bench in the hallway is framed by pale walls and vertically-patterned wall covering. Behind the bench, light walls are traversed by the dark diagonal lines of the hand rail and treads. The wallpaper's verticals accentuate the home's high ceilings, and are echoed by the stairs' spindles. Circular informal dining table is centered between the expansive kitchen and great room, and also services the covered porch and grilling area. Its visual impact begins at the home’s entry hallway. A water-jet marble mosaic behind kitchen range adds bold pattern while remaining monochromatic. Light grey grass cloth wraps the kitchen walls to add texture. Built-in bookcase and linear storage unit were custom-designed for the niches flanking fireplace. Fireplace surround is accented with woven, fabric-like wall covering. Acoustics from exposed hardwood floors are managed via upholstered furniture & window treatments. Artwork throughout the home celebrates simplicity and drama. The master gains its unique quality through light fixtures, deep toned walls and a patterned ceiling.
