This is a build-out of a raw basement that Pineapple House transformed into an entertainment and recreational space suitable for adults as well as three active boys under age six. The space is a melody of textures, with walls of wood and stone.

For visual consistency, most walls are 10” wide, smoothly finished wood planks with nickel joints. Baskets are positioned low and contain toys, X-box and Wii equipment so the children can develop the habit of cleaning up the space.

To contrast with white finishes, ashen-stain is used on kitchen cabinetry and on game room trey ceilings. Darker grey stain on the kitchen island is echoed in dining built-in. The whimsical dining fixture is fashioned after wooden crate with metal edges.

In the wine cellar, Pineapple House designers employ a limestone rock wall. Select stones are pulled forward, creating “shelves” for battery-run candles. Glass doors help transmit light into the space -- the one most far away from the rooms' solo wall of windows.

Limestone brackets support a rough-hewn wood drink shelf in the game room niche, which is recessed to accommodate game stools for pool players. The fixture over the pool table is reclaimed tin.
