Mosaic Mudroom

Built-ins fill the wall space not taken up by windows. Beadboard backs and a stained bench carry through the style of the main house.

The mosaic tile, with its electric in floor radiant heating system, is a highlight of the space. Built-ins pick up the blue of the tile. The stairway echoes traditional details found elsewhere in the circa 1880 house.

The space where the stairs used to be is now a gracious connector between the kitchen and living room (previously you had to circle around through the main foyer). The kitchen, dining and living areas, previously cut off by the stairs and windowed wall, now connect seamlessly for entertaining (and dog/kid race circuits). The change in flooring direction indicates the area reclaimed from the old stairwell. See before from this angle.

No wasted space here! Even the space under the stairs includes storage. Custom built in include drawers for the kiddos on the left and access to utility connections on the right.
