Natural Stone Garden

We've created a practical and beautiful place with a variety of options for people to enjoy and utilize the space - a place to entertain, relax and de-stress.
The original pool was the dominating feature in the yard and was installed at an awkward 45% angle. The existing concrete paving was pervasive and the raised planter beds followed the angular lines of the pool. We replaced the sad, worn out pavement with luxurious, rich red flagstone that added color and warmth to the garden. A drab pool in a sea of concrete became a practical and beautiful garden space with a variety of options for people to enjoy and utilize the space. Now the pool sparkles azure against the terracotta paving framed by the soft foliage of the plants.

The perimeter wall is finished in a custom blend of moss green Santa Barbara stucco. Square cutouts soften the wall and a custom redwood pergola is planted with grape vines. A small custom kitchen with built in barbeque nestles into the pergola.

In a corner of the yard sits a fire pit with a circular stone bench which is built from the excavated concrete of the original deck. The bench and plant beds are all gently curving to soften the straight angles of the pool and improve the flow of the yard.

It's important to us to make the garden environmentally friendly and we approached this from all angles. Grass was removed and replaced with lush, colorful drought tolerant plants irrigated with drip irrigation and we recycled as much as possible, be it materials, plants, garden ornaments – you name it. The paving is all permeable to help with water percolation and the front yard has a rain garden for the same purpose.
