Provençal Terrace

This garden is proof that you don't need a lot of space to create a beautiful and provocative garden. We filled the space with flowers and foliage that have the colors, textures and heady aromas of Southern France to remind my client of her summers in Provence. So much is packed into this tiny garden yet the space still feels relaxing and serene although it serves many functions.

The fountain is surrounded by Angel's Trumpet, Roses and New Zealand Flax. A hedge of Pittosporum screens the cars and passerbys from the house and Bouganvillea scrambles up around the large french doors.

A container filled with succulents nestles next to the prolific Iceberg Rose bush.

Teracotta and ceramic containers filled with succulents, herbs and flowers are sprinkled liberally throughout the garden.

The lawn feels expansive despite it's postage stamp size. In the center is the fountain surrounded by striking foliage and flowers. A hedge of Pittosporum adds privacy to the terrace.

The client wakes up each morning to a sun-drenched "citrus orchard" and miniature rose garden planted in a collection of teracotta pots in the upstairs balcony off her master bedroom.

Terra cotta pots are filled with citrus trees, roses, lavender and decorative foliage.

A wall fountain and climbing roses were added to the wall of this balcony space. The soothing sound of running water adds a sense of tranquility to this tiny oasis.

The fountain is flanked by New Zealand Flax (Phormium tenax rubrum) and backed by a hedge of Pittosporum tobira. I love the contrast between the spiky Flax and Iceberg Rose.
