Oak Point Residence

This project is an example of a client who wanted the clean lines and accessible geometry you typically find in contemporary architecture, but in this case, we removed the rigidity typical of most contemporary homes. The primary focus for the ranch residence was the couples love of animals, horses in particular. This house is located about an hour north of Dallas, Texas and is a working horse farm – complete with its own stable and riding arena. The Texas vernacular architecture reflects the couple’s casual ranch lifestyle and love of the outdoors. The main house is 4 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms and 6,327 square feet.

A connection to the outdoors was achieved with large windows and careful orientation of each structure to take advantage of the properties views, large trees, and ponds. Design features were put in place to allow the animals to roam the property while limiting their access into the house. Limiting access without blocking views or building obvious fences required creative and unique solutions and planning. The house was sited to take advantage of the natural grade so that a series of terraced retaining walls and landscape features were constructed so that the views from the house were unobstructed.
