Riverhouse Remodel
This renovation of an architectural 1969 home located on an amazing site on the Columbia River in Camas, WA took a year to plan and almost a year to remodel. It was a complex project that was made even more challenging by breaking ground in early November in what was to be one of the wettest winters of all time.
There were two flat roof areas with 8' ceilings that we tore down to the sub-floor in order to increase the ceiling height to 9' and to add a pitched roof. The timing with the weather had to be perfect as we were building over a finished basement which our client uses to run their office from.
The central vault that runs down the middle of the house from north to south was retained, but a large brick fireplace in the center of the family room was removed in order to take full advantage of the view.
We added a large covered deck off the kitchen to enjoy the river view with ample room for the large gatherings our clients love to host.
We converted the existing garage and covered breezeway into bedrooms, a bath, laundry and the new entry.
All windows were replaced with new energy efficient Anderson 100 series windows and new smooth Hardi-plank siding installed.
A couple of the unique features of the home are a glass overhead door off the kitchen to the covered deck and a walnut table milled from our client's Aunt's walnut tree felled in SE Portland.
Our clients report that the home has exceeded their expectations for comfort, livability and entertaining family and friends.
